About Tix•R•Us

First, a little history...

Tix•R•Us had its roots in 2003 as a once-off effort by Debra Weitzman and Colleen Dick. In 2003 the Corvallis Youth Symphony had booked a national act as their major fundraiser. They knew that there was a market for tickets outside their normal geographic area, so online sales was a good fit, but they weren't quite sure how to go about it. At the time Deb was the Corvallis Youth Symphony administrator and was also a past symphony parent. Colleen (parent of then-current senior clarinetist Connor Dick) was recruited because of her technical background. The technical challenge plus the promise of being excused from normal obligations of symphony parents was enough for Colleen to say, "Let's do it!"

Together Deb and Colleen cut their teeth in online ticketing with the Youth Symphony's original collaboration with Pink Martini. The result was a smashingly successful sellout; word got around; and soon other organizations were making inquiries. Thus Tix•R•Us came into being, and was incorporated as a LLC in September of 2005.

In 2007, Deb's involvement with Tix•R•Us contributed to her new career in event management, and she withdrew from Tix•R•Us.

What we are...

We are a B2B authorized ticket seller. We create relationships with our clients and allow them to access our management system. In the management panel we create data models of client events. The system automatically hooks these up with our financial back-end and publishes them on the world wide web. On the front end our clients embed a purchase link in their web-based marketing, and/or print media. The buy button or link brings the visitor to an active event purchase panel on our site where the money actually changes hands. Funds from these sales are either funneled directly to the client, paid at regular intervals, or held for a lump sum payment to the client upon termination of the sale. A ticket bought through Tix•R•Us is a primary sale for the client organization we represent.

What we are not...

We want it very clearly understood that we are not scalpers! We do not speculate on blocks of tickets hoping to create an artificial shortage, and then offer the tickets for resale at inflated prices. In fact, our contract with our clients specifically disallows us to do this. Neither are we aftermarket brokers such as StubHub (the Ebay of ticket resale), at least not at the moment. It's hard to make this critical distinction at a glance.

Summary

Tix•R•Us was created to give organizations a secure, well managed way to sell tickets online, extend their marketing reach, and improve their bottom line without going broke doing so. You have better things to do than pore over the ins and outs of credit card gateways and wonder whether you need to be PCI compliant or not. It is highly cost effective to outsource your ticketing operation to Tix•R•Us and take advantage of Tix•R•Us's technical expertise and payment infrastructure rather than build your own complex infrastructure from scratch... ask any of our clients!
